DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
The genesis of Anemoia can be traced back to an old home video that I stumbled on a few Christmases ago. While nostalgia had always been a familiar companion, this instance was unique. A profound yearning to relive the past with a loved one that no longer existed, gripped me. It was a period marked by my own mental health challenges, a time when the urge to create eclipsed any inclination towards idleness. Guided by the conviction that the deeply personal could transcend into the universally resonant, the script for Anemoia began to take shape.
At the core of this narrative lies a character so universally relatable that it's almost heartbreaking. She embodies the figures we all know: a friend, a family member, a partner, or even an aspect of ourselves. Anemoia offers a glimpse into the intricate landscape of psychological and emotional turbulence, mirroring the very fabric of our everyday lives, laden with sentiments of guilt, fear, and the wounds of abuse.
Anemoia, by definition, is nostalgia for a time you've never known. It's my hope that this film offers some sort of reprieve, allowing us to touch the intangible, once again, even if ever so briefly.
